Many tasks include repairing the damage caused by the Trump Administration, especially from the global pandemic period

On Saturday, 7th November 2020, the Associated Press projected Joe Biden to become the 46th President of the United States of America, which would mean that Kamala Harris would be the first black female Vice President in US history. We have yet to hear whether Donald Trump will concede to Biden.

In light of this election result, it is clear that the USA is a deeply divided society where there is a clear ideological and polarised difference between urban and rural communities. …

It is clear that South Africa has leaders, such as Ramaphosa and Mkhize, who have risen to the occasion, have exceeded expectations and are receiving praise from South Africans and organisations around the world.

President Cyril Ramaphosa addressing the nation News24

We have entered unprecedented, uncertain times. Coronavirus (Covid-19) has become a global pandemic, with over 1 million infections, and an ever-increasing death rate. South Africa, like most of the world, has been affected by this pandemic. Despite the challenges of being downgraded to economic junk status, corruption and socio-economic issues, there is no doubt that South Africa has illustrated superb leadership during times of great difficulty.

On Thursday, 26th March 2020, at midnight, South Africa entered a nationwide lockdown in an attempt to curb the growing infection rate of coronavirus in the country. …

After analysing decisions and measures taken by respective institutions, Stellenbosch University (SU) does appear to be the most progressive with the approach it has taken for its students and staff.

With the Corona Virus now settling into South African society and causing mass hysteria as the number of positive patients increases exponentially, government and its institutions have been taking crucial measures to tackle the spread of the virus in order to protect people from infection. Tertiary institutions have been part of this process and are all currently on “an early recess” as described by Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education.

It is no secret that I have been a critic of Stellenbosch University’s past decisions, culture and structures. However, it is important to give credit where it is due. After…

Stellenbosch University has launched a “rebranding period” and it should be used appropriately: to decolonise and transform the institution.

Open Stellenbosch was a movement in 2015 which called for transformation at SU. Their efforts lead to SU becoming a dual medium institution. Credits: eNCA.

Following the Constitutional Courts ruling on the 2016 Language Policy of Stellenbosch University, which it made at the end of 2019, it is important to adhere to the transformative process of redress by ensuring that Stellenbosch truly does become an African university. The university is also currently going through a “rebranding process”, and therefore, there are a number of approaches that the university should consider taking in order to achieve a true transformative SU.

In both 2018 and 2019, the university did speed up a “redress” programme by introducing conversations at faculties, as well as erecting the bronze statue circle…

It’s been months since the last BTS comeback, but that has not stopped the group from making history and solidifying themselves as the global supergroup.

It’s 2020. A decade has come and gone, and with it, we have seen the rise of the top music group in the world, BTS. Bangtan Sonyeondan, a Korean boy group, began, in the 2010s, as a small, somewhat unknown group, and as the years progressed, they fast became the most talked about group in the world.

This should not be a surprise though. With the training, effort, talent, time and energy that BTS members put into their craft, they have produced true masterpieces that have been enjoyed by millions of fans around the world.

Their performances live up to…

September is a special time of the year for the bisexual community. It is the month where Bisexual Pride and Visibility are celebrated. Dear Men,

For the last few days, South Africa, and the world at large has been informed about the atrocities that have been happening to womxn throughout the country. Our beautiful nation has experienced and undergone so much and we have now reached another crisis point.

Womxn are constantly fearing for their lives. They constantly have to look over their shoulder, and constantly have to worry about the men that they associate themselves with. Womxn can’t even be close friends with most men.

Most men, unfortunately, are trash, and are dangerous. They take advantage of womxn, whether drunk or sober…

It is no secret that Kim Namjoon and BTS, overall, have been a big inspiration in my life for the last 2 years, but it is important to express how Namjoon played a role in inspiring me as a young leader.

BTS at the United Nations HQ in New York, and Namjoon delivering his renowned “Speak Yourself” Speech.

Positive role models, motivational, impactful leaders and individuals are crucial in our society today. We are living in uncertain times where young leaders have to rise up and tackle important issues. As someone who has been in leadership roles, I often look to fellow leaders for guidance, advice, insight and inspiration.

I am so grateful for being introduced to BTS’s music, as I was able to learn from them, understand and agree with their imperative philosophies and life lessons, whilst also being an ARMY who loves and supports them wholeheartedly. …

With the increase of natural disasters, the ongoing degradation of environments, and rising levels of endangered species, it is concerning that the call for environmentally friendly policies and actions are not being heard.

Younger generations have been at the forefront of environmental activism.

2019 has become a pivotal year in revealing the vast impact of global warming, pollution and environmental degradation. We have witnessed record breaking high temperatures in Europe, high levels of sea life dying out because of plastics, and a number of cyclones and strange weather patterns hitting the coasts of Africa and the Americas. In response to this, environmental groups, activists and lobbying groups have been working tirelessly to convince politicians and policymakers to reverse decisions that are playing a role in damaging the environment and contributing towards rising temperatures and sea levels. …

Gender stereotypes and expectations of strength and lack of emotion are killing men.

It has become a common known fact in society that men are less likely to seek medical or psychological help for their mental health than any other gender. Academics and mental health advocates have been investigating to determine the cause of this result, and the conclusion that the majority have come to is that toxic masculinity is the root cause.

Masculinity itself is identified as the set of traits and roles that people, who identify as men, are expected to have/take. In addition to the problematic nature of these gender roles and traits, there are a number of “toxic” features…
