BTS — Breaker of Barriers, Pavers of the Way
The Global Stars continue to make history with the success of their new comeback and their incredible talents
2019, thus far, has been another successful year for Bangtan Sonyeondan, otherwise known as BTS! The vibrant, dynamic group of 7 have once again broken records, made history and taken the world by storm after releasing their latest work of art: Map of the Soul: PERSONA.
Following the release of their latest album, their lead single “Boy With Luv” which features the talented Halsey, has topped charts around the world including Western countries such as the USA and UK, and continues to make waves on radio stations globally. The album reached #1 on iTunes charts speedily after its release, and it remains highly streamed on platforms such as Spotify.
A challenge for the ARMY fandom has been continuity since the diverse, loving family often streams and purchases the new release(s) non-stop during the first week, and after that, things begin to slow down. So far, it seems that ARMYs are succeeding in being consistent with streams and requesting the lead single to be played on local radio stations.
The Boy With Luv music video broke the record for the most views in 24 hours, having reached 74,6 million views in 1 day! Following this, the group performed at Saturday Night Live (SNL) and has returned to South Korea to perform songs from the album at various shows which resulted in them winning awards for their lead single.
In addition to this, BTS is currently nominated for two awards at the Billboard Music Awards: The Top Social Artist Award, which they have won twice in a row, and the Top Duo/Group award. This has continued the ongoing process of breaking down the barriers that have existed in the West.
There has been a problematic view that BTS is popular just because of their social media presence. However, this is a farce, and the West is slowly beginning to realise that it is their pure talent and exceptional personalities that has made them so popular, and the social media presence is simply a result of being such an incredible group of people.
An important part of BTS, which is often forgotten, is how humble they are despite all the achievements and adversities that they have received and endured. BTS’s company is BigHit Entertainment, which started from humble, small beginnings and was seen as insignificant before. In 2019, it is now the most successful business in the Korean music industry, having racked up major profits which assisted the South Korean economy. This is all due to BTS’s success and global takeover.
Regardless, BTS remains focused on delivering their best work to their fans. They have a deep connection, a bond, to ARMY and at the end of the day, they focus primarily on sharing their journey of self-love and growth with their ARMY fandom.
It is clear that BTS is becoming a common, yet respected household name around the world, with people of all ages, races, genders, sexualities and nationalities becoming ARMYs and celebrating and supporting a group that focuses on uplifting people through their talents and genuine love for others.
